   Laura Eason is the author of more than fifteen plays -- both original work and adaptations.  Produced plays include Around the World in 80 Days (Lookingglass Theatre, Chicago) When the Messenger is Hot (59E59, NYC; Steppenwolf Theatre, Chicago), Area of Rescue (Andhow Theatre at the Connelly, NYC), The Ghost’s Bargain (Two River Theater, NJ), The Coast of Chicago (adapted from the book by MacArthur ‘genius’ Stuart Dybek, Walkabout Theatre, Chicago), Dynamometer (The Thursday Problem/Working Man's Clothes, NYC), Lost in the Supermarket (Vital Theatre, NYC), In the Eye of the Beholder (Lookingglass; Touchstone Theatre, PA), A Tale of Two Cities (Steppenwolf), 28 (Lookingglass), Huck Finn (Steppenwolf), and Our Secret Life (Middlesex School).
    Additional plays include
40 Days, Sex with Strangers, Plainfield Ace, Peanut Moms and Rewind.  Her plays have been developed in New York at New York Theatre Workshop,  MCC,  Andhow Theater and New Georges as well as at SF Playhouse in San Francisco and Steppenwolf and Lookingglass in ChicagoArea of Rescue, When the Messenger is Hot and Around the World in 80 Days are published by Broadway Play Publishing where she was named playwright of the year in 2007.  Hidden, co-writtem with Michael Rohd and produced by Sojourn Theatre, is published in Ethnodrama by AltaMiraPress.
    Laura is an Ensemble Member and the former Artistic Director of Lookingglass Theatre, an Affiliated Artist and Kitchen Cabinet member of New Georges in NYC, and a graduate of the Performance Studies Department of Northwestern University.  Awards/Grants include an NEA artistic development grant and two Joseph Jefferson Awards (Chicago) for new work and adaptation.  Originally from Chicago, she lives in Brooklyn,  NY.

    Laura Eason is a theatre artist with more than fifteen years experience as a producer, artistic director, actor,  director, musician, composer and new work dramaturg
    For six years, Laura served as Lookingglass Theatre’s Artistic Director.  While leading the company, Lookingglass completed a successful eight million dollar capital campaign and opened its new theatre in Chicago’s historic Water Tower Water Works.  As Artistic Director, she oversaw the development and production of more than a dozen world-premieres -- including three productions by Lookingglass ensemble member and Tony Award-winning director Mary Zimmerman and Hard Times, a Jeff award-winner for Best Production, published by Northwestern University Press.  She also served as Lookingglass’ Director of Artistic Development working with artists to develop original works and new adaptations and continues to develop new work with Lookingglass on a freelance basis.
    As an actor, Laura has performed in more than fifteen world premieres with Lookingglass Theatre and at the Goodman and Steppenwolf Theatres in Chicago, among others.  New York credits include productions at the Brooklyn Academy of Music (BAM), Lincoln Center Festival and Metamorphoses on Broadway.  Regional credits include the Actor’s Gang, Arden Theatre, Berkeley Rep., Seattle Rep. and McCarter Theatres.  Film credits include a lead in the Miramax Film, Since You’ve Been Gone
    As a director, her Lookingglass credits include In the Eye of the Beholder (Jeff nomination for direction), 28, dreaming lucia, Lookingglass Hamlet and Romeo & Juliet.  With Sojourn Theatre, her produced work with Artistic Director Michael Rohd includes co-writing and co-directing Look Away: An Exploration of Youth and Violence, which was seen by 45,000 students in the American Northwest, Smash’d, and Hidden: Hate and Complicity in Present Day Portland, which is published in Ethnodrama: An Anthology of Reality Theatre by AltaMira Press.
    For five years, she was a singer, songwriter and bass player for the Chicago band, Tart, and spent two years playing bass and singing back-up for the Helen Henderson Band in Los Angeles.  As a composer, she has written songs and lyrics for the Lookingglass productions of La Luna  Muda, VanishingTwin, Metamorphosis (shared Jeff Award Nomination for Best Original Music), Her Name Was Danger, 28, Secret in the Wings and All Souls Day.
      Laura also learned some circus skills for the Lookingglass productions of Hard Times, La Luna Muda and Master and Margarita including lyra, Spanish web and trapeze. 
    She is a graduate of Northwestern University’s performance studies department and is a native Chicagoan.  Laura lives in Brooklyn, NY with her husband, actor Erik Lochtefeld.
